“I love to say at 68, I am only just beginning!” ~ Maye Musk
by: Neki Bosh
Fascinatingly enough, Maye Musk is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who has run her own nutrition business for over forty years in eight cities and three countries. Maye has also been a professional model for more than five decades with her modeling career beginning in Pretoria and Johannesburg at the age of 15. Some modeling jobs have taken her to Cape Town, London, Munich, Amsterdam, Zurich, The Bahamas, Montreal and Toronto. Her New York magazine cover won best magazine cover in the USA. You may recognize Maye from Revlon commercials, and you may have also seen her in Beyonce’s Haunted video.
Her latest campaign is for the James Perse Fall 2016 collection. The traditional James Perse imagery has relied less on personalities and more on young, anonymous-looking models in beachy settings, or even just the product on its own. According to WWD, a company spokesperson noted that the 20-year-old brand is trying to change customers’ expectations from the young beach set to underscore it has clients of all ages and ethnicities. Maye was the perfect choice to represent this change. Her story, much like the James Perse brand, is classic, sophisticated and timeless. We are extremely inspired by this beauty, as she is also an incredible mind. Thanks for reminding us all that age really is only a number.

“Suddenly, Cuba is the most talked-about thing in the world and we’re the first with fashion.” ~ Karl Lagerfeld
by: Neki Bosh
As with the rest of the fashion industry, we are obsessing over the the Chanel Resort 2017 collection. We were completely blown away with the entire Havana experience. Karl Lagerfeld brilliantly connected us to this collection by including personal touches, like his love for Latin music and Cuba’s rich culture. He told WWD he found it all “beautiful in a way. The colors, the cars, there’s something very touching about it. Cuba is like nothing else in the world. It has an identity I love, and I always wanted to go, but I need a professional reason.”
Guests were chauffeured to Havana’s Paseo de Prado, the dividing line between Old and New Havana, in more than 100 brightly colored convertibles from the 40’s and 50’s. A colonial avenue was transformed into a runway and the VIP seating consisted of park benches. The sounds of Latin music filled the air as models graced the runway in looks inspired by the elegance of pre-revolutionary Cuba. Heavily influenced by the 20’s and 30’s, the looks included sequinned berets, fedoras and spectator shoes. As an added touch of amazing, the show ended with a conga line of models and dancers. Please take a peek at some of our favorite looks from this amazing collection. Coco Cuba is truly fashion history.
This week Bergdorf Goodman celebrated a collaboration between one of our favorite designers and one of our beloved childhood stories, Kenzo x The Jungle Book. The ready-to-wear collection includes jungle-esque prints inspired by the film’s beloved characters – Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, King Louie and more. The pieces include silk shirts, dresses, trousers, denim jackets and shorts with fun vibrant colors. The collection is available now at Berfdorf Goodman and will be available tomorrow on kenzo.com.
We can’t ignore the fact that the childhood thrills The Jungle Book movie provides just makes our hearts beat. The Jungle Book movie trailer brilliantly captures our attention by revisiting our fondest memories of Mowgli and Baloo, but in a more modern and humanized form. The visuals and details of the new version are extremely impressive and far from the animated version most of us are familiar with. Not to mention, some of our favorite actors (Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johnsson and Idris Elba) are starring in the movie. The film is set to release on April 15, 2016. Check out the trailer below. We will see you at the movies rocking your favorite Kenzo x The Jungle Book pieces. Enjoy ~ xxxooo
Sonia Rykiel is a French designer who is widely known as the “Queen of Knits”. Rykiel’s career started when she couldn’t find soft sweaters for women during her pregnancy, so she designed a sweater dress. The Poor Boy Sweater was featured on the cover of Elle magazine and this was the beginning of a great clothing brand. Sonia Rykiel has achieved much in her career as a fashion designer, but we most appreciate the sense of freedom her line represents.
Below is the best of Sonia Rykiel Pre-Fall 2016. Stay tuned for an update on when the line is available for purchase. Enjoy! ~ xxxooo
When I started TJC four years ago I had no idea what the coming years would bring. I’ve had some awesome life experiences within my blogger life. But, 2015 brought more self-awareness than I would’ve ever imagined. The process started in 2014 with the close of a business and other projects being placed on hold due to life’s circumstances. If you’ve ever started a business or attempted to build something from the ground up you know life will throw all types of curves in your plans. If you haven’t experienced any curves on your journey, God has favored you highly. However, my story has included many unplanned circumstances which led me to realize life is far more than what we wear and what we do to earn a living.
At the beginning of 2015 I promised myself I would travel and enjoy life more. I wouldn’t be the business woman who woke up one day wondering why I never stopped to enjoy my life. When I made that declaration I was completely broke. I had no idea how I would travel, but I had a few ideas how I would enjoy life more. I dare not bore you with my previous plans. However, I would love to share some of the great happenings of 2015.
Last year I was blessed to visit Florida, Mexico, New York, California, Puerto Rico and Georgia. Some of these places I visited multiple times, and I can’t help but smile when I think of how utterly amazing that really is. I watched the sunrise in Cabo, met up with Chrisette Michele and some of her wonderful friends at BeautyCon in NYC, fell in love (with him again) on a 16 hour trip to Puerto Rico, frolicked multiple times on the beaches of California and much more. I never imagined how exhilarating spending less than twenty-four hours in a beautiful place could truly be. I’ve taken several “day-cations” and I’m always asked the same questions, 1). Are you crazy? 2). What could you possibly do in less than 24 hours? 3). Is it really worth it? You would be surprised at how many four and five-star hotels you can enjoy at a fraction of the advertised cost. So, this year I will be sharing more and enlightening all of you guys on how I travel fancy and frugal.
Many of you follow my social network accounts (i.e Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), and you’ve seen multiple pictures and videos of this gorgeous-talented man. I’ve read your DM’s and all of your inbox messages. To clear the air…. I fell in love last year with an incredible person who happens to be my best friend. When I met Darius it wasn’t clear to either of us what this would be. But, we’re both really happy with what it has become. We have tons of fun together and we share a lot of life experiences. We value our privacy and although I share A LOT of photos, it’s difficult to share more. I know you guys understand that! But I hope you’ll support his music and attend a few shows. He’s INCREDIBLE. More to come on Darius Scott! I’ve got an exclusive. (Click here for his latest song, Beyond.)
In summation, 2015 was possibly one of the greatest years I’ve experienced in life. Not because of any one thing, but because collectively God smiled on my life and I got a chance to embrace His love. That’s what I consider favor. I met some new friends and reconnected with some old friends. We fall and we may even fail, but because of God’s love and His promises we can never-EVER give up. Life gets better if you keep living.
Stay tuned for some great reads, awesome wardrobe styling, my favorite beauty regimes, our new addition “Tuesday Travels” and more artist/designer spotlights. We’re looking forward to a great year! ~ xxxooo
