I do not consider the infamous leather jacket “trendy”. It is a classic investment piece that has been around since the early 1900’s. The leather jacket was originally used as part of uniforms for aviators and military personnel. Thanks to pop culture, the leather jacket has now become an essential and defining article of outerwear. A black dress is just a black dress until paired with a leather moto-jacket. When paired with a great leather jacket, clothes take on new life…entirely. It’s safe to say the leather jacket is here to stay. So, we may as well embrace it…even in the heat of summer.
I am one who has never followed many rules in fashion. I’ve always anticipated the day after Labor Day so I could wear white and make the “safe” fashionistas everywhere uncomfortable. I suggest boots in the summer and open toe in the winter. I adore a good fashion rebel…a fashion freedom fighter. In all my freedom, I have never considered the leather jacket in summer. I’m a Texan, and if you have ever experienced a Texas summer you completely understand why a leather jacket did not fit my summer wardrobe equation.
This summer the leather jacket is in full bloom. We’re pairing it with shorts, dresses and the classic jeans & tee. It is almost as essential to your look as the perfect handbag or the killer shoe. Below are some cool ways to style your leather jacket for the holiday. If you are lacking a great leather jacket, now is the time for you to make the investment. Let’s face it, the leather jacket is here to stay.
